Sick no longer, back from brothers graduation- I make my (triumphant?) return.
Some Banksy news! Apparently a piece of his got destroyed in Melbourne? There is a video in the link but I cannot embed it because of stupid copy-write laws or something. Isn’t it sort of the peril of all street artists/ that your work is so temporary?
But Wait! there is another new Banksy piece! Check it out after the break nerdoes.
Banksy has been wielding his stencil once again in London… possibly.
And if the artwork that has appeared overnight on the wall of a Poundland shop in Haringey does turn out to by the world’s most famous graffiti artist, it seems as if he may have the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in his targets.
Depicting a young sweatshop worker bent over a sewing machine, Union Jack bunting – similar to that said to be stocked by the discount store chain – that was affixed to the mural has now been removed.
It seems that the elusive street artist may have daubed his latest piece yesterday morning with the help of two associates.
Local resident Holly-Jade Leathers told the Evening Standard that she saw three men near the spot in the early hours.
“I came down here at about four in the morning and there were three guys who looked homeless with their backs to the wall,” the 14-year-old is reported to have said.
Another Turnpike Lane observer suggested that although the artist’s intentions may be to comment on the issue of child labour, the graffiti would actually add value to local properties.
James Longshaw is reported to have said: “It’s a work of art, so of course I enjoy it.
“It will probably put house prices up in the area – that’s what has happened in areas where he has been before.
“I don’t see why anyone should object – all it means is the area has arrived.
“He isn’t attacking the area, he is attacking businesses in the area which exploit people in sweatshops.”
Although best known for his iconoclastic street art, Banksy has also directed a film – Exit Through the Gift Shop – which was billed as “the world’s first street art disaster movie” and nominated for an Academy Award last year.
